So, how to begin...
Those who know me for a long time know that musically I've been sort of silent for quite a long time. Some have heard me playing live with my wonderful ex-band Niburta, or on our unexpectedly well recieved EP, but somehow my own compositions have never surfaced, yet some years ago I've made an entire album with my past project Mythlond.
So... I wasn't lazy at all, and here I am now, feeling that the time is right to unveil my new project, the successor of Mythlond... behold the "Arcanaeum".
I've been composing songs for a new project for almost one and a half years now, and one of them feels ready to be recorded and unleashed upon the world.
The release will be called Knights' Charge, a quite long song clocking right over 10 minutes, plus a prologue and an epilogue, so these three tracks will form this introductory release.
I hope I've managed to raise your attention my friends, and I really hope you are interested about some musical and lyrical details. If that's the case, please read on.
It's always hard to write about my own music, to stay objective and not to be carried away in excitement.
Genre specification... this is the hardest task maybe... I'd say that essentially Arcanaeum is symphonic metal with progressive elements. The orchestration is the central element in the music, supported by the metal section. By progressive elements I mean lots of key changes, odd meters, tempo changes and generally I think there's a lot of movement and excitement. Doesn't sound like the key to success, does it? :)
Anyways it's going to be a hard listen, but I hope there will be a few people around, who'll appreciate that I've tried to put all my heart and soul into the compositions, and I sincerely hope that those, who know me personally and closely will find pieces of "me" throughout the whole release. I really love music when it radiates kindness and hope, and I got so much of this from my favourite bands, and that's what I try to give people through my music as well.
Some of my influences on Knights' Charge are Battle Magic era Bal-Sagoth, Kivenkantaja era Moonsorrow, Basil Poledouris, Miklós Rózsa, Howard Shore and Jeremy Soule.
Lyrically a Tolkienesque world suits perfectly for what message I try to say through music, mostly because of its duality. In a Tolkienesque world there is really black and white, good and evil, whereas it's very alien from ours, even though I do see almost everything in black and white, and that's where I fail to grasp the essence of our world and constantly feel that something is not right. And basically this anxiety, care and need of self-expression I feel is the heart of the lyrical concept.
Finally, I'd like to say a few things about the recording process.
I've finished recording the programmed drums, the orchestrations and the keyboards. I will proceed with the bass still on this week, and continue with guitars next week. Then comes the vocals which's fate is yet unknown. I'll still need a guitar solo, then it can be mixed and mastered.
When is it going to be ready? A question I can hardly answer myself, but I guess it's going to be ready in December.
Sorry for boring you, words just kept flowing out.
Feel free to write me about anything.
Yours faithfully,
Bálint
